The Olinda Rural Fire Brigade was formed in 1927.
All of our members are 100% volunteers and we all come many and varied backgrounds, all offering different skills and qualities.
Currently we have 63 volunteer members. Of those 63 members 36 are operational, 21 are non operational (brigade support team) and 6 are junior members.
The brigade has 3 tankers available for deployment to any bushfire, car accident, or structural fire in our designated area.
Our members have varied experience ranging from 50 years to only a few months. We train every Wednesday evening and most Sunday mornings. Our brigade places community safety and the protection of lives as our utmost important goal. We have a Community Education Plan and our Brigade has a very strong focus on the safety and education of our residents and local businesses. We place strong focus on engaging with our community to ensure they are the best prepared and most educated they can be to help build a resilient community.
We hold an annual “Ridge Top” Brigades Family Fun and Information Day in conjunctions with our neighbouring brigades of Kalorama-Mt Dandenong & Sassafras-Ferny Creek. Details will be advertised through our Facebook page as well as via flyers posted to every house in our areas, our brigade websites and local newspaper editorials.
This event is a “one stop shop” that aims to provide access to fire preparedness information and expertise in a single location, provide fun activities for children to encourage parents to attend, creates a fun and enjoyable day, provides an opportunity to talk to other local residents and meet your community, provides the opportunity to talk with local CFA volunteers and enables us to engage with our locals to help build a resilient, well prepared community.
