The Emerald RSL is a traditional non-gaming RSL Club in the small country town of Emerald 50 Kms east of Melbourne in the Dandenong Ranges.
The Club has 250 members and is a leading organisation in the local community. It is the only local, licensed community Club in Emerald. Five years ago the Club commenced a program to completely renovate the clubrooms and now boasts a modern facility that is used by members and local community groups. The Club also decided to actively engage with the people of Emerald and commenced a successful membership drive to expand its membership of all categories – Service, Affiliate and Social.
In 2013 the Club commissioned a project to replace the Heroes Avenue memorial to its WW1 soldiers who were killed in action. The Club built Anzac Walk and Anzac Place as part of the Government’s Centenary of Anzac program. Anzac Walk is an audio trail whereby visitors can hear the stories of the 32 men who were killed in WW1. It was opened in 2015 by the Governor General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove.
The Club very actively supports its veterans and has a continual program of entertainment and educative programs for all its members. It also embraces programs that support those in need in the local community. The Club has a very active social calendar with weekly Bingo competition every Monday, a monthly blues night with top Melbourne bands involved. The Club has a very comprehensive website that keeps members up to date with its activities and also a Facebook page for members and local residents to communicate.
